How can I recover deleted items from any Outlook folder?

If you have permanently deleted any MS Outlook email or other item by emptying the ‘Deleted Items’ folder, don’t worry you can recover them easily provided your Exchange server admin specifies the retention time for permanently deleted items on the Exchange server. So once this time elapsed, you cannot recover the deleted items.

On viewing ‘Deleted Items’ folder, the Recover Deleted Items command on the Tools menu gets enabled by default. If you make some modifications in the registry, this command becomes available regardless of which Outlook folder you are viewing. Now if an item is emptied from the Deleted Items folder, click Deleted Items to use Recovered Deleted Items. All the items that have been deleted using Shift+Del key are available in this folder.

You need to be very careful while modifying the registry editor. If it’s done incorrectly, you might cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Follow the given below steps to use registry editor.

  • Exit Outlook.

  • Open the Windows registry editor.

  • Browse to

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options

  • Go to Edit New DWORD Value.

  • Type the name DumpsterAlwaysOn.

  • Set the DWORD value to 1.

  • Restart Outlook.

Now the tools menu would be having the ‘Recover Deleted Items’ command for every Outlook folder. Start recovering your deleted email items using this command. In case, you are feeling helpless and not able to recover the email items then try Kernel for PST recovery software. This software recovers any permanently deleted email .PST file easily and effectively.
